Machado Farms is a small family-owned business located in the hot dry Inland Valleys of Southern California. We grow a variety of fruits and vegetables for the Farmers Market system, as well as creating innovative farm products for sale on our web site.
Our Goals and Purpose
- Farm clean and smart, a simple alternative to the misdirected Organic label.
- Take samples of our products and our soil in for testing to show our commitment to clean, healthy food.
- Farming at the most basic, simple, uncomplicated, non-mechanized level possible.
- Shun all sprays, whether nontoxic or not. This puts the pressure where it should be, on the soil and the seed.
- Save water and energy, the two areas most abused on a farm.
- Maintain our independence and creativity, refusing to kneel before anybody’s idea on what a farm should look like, sound like or be like.
- Refuse to bow before the Federal Organics Act, which stifles innovation, curiosity, and risk taking. Instead, it promotes fear and conformity, rewarding only those with the deepest pockets.
- Work to make a profit, believing that the way to keep the family farm is to make it pay for itself.
- Confidently promote farming as a viable profession for anyone who wants to make a difference. Farmers see more miracles in one growing season than all the high priests see in their lifetime.
